Operation New Friends

Best friends ♥

Isn't it nice to always believe that your friends will always be there for you no matter what?
Wouldn't it be the perfect world if no one ever moved away and you all lived in the same neighborhood?
Or wouldn't it be great if people never got jealous?

All of these things are just wishes that you think of when you're in middle school or high school or you just met new friends in college. I have never had luck with friends, especially those who were girls, until I went to college.

I wasn't one to have lots of close friends, but many acquaintances. But when I did find those girls who I actually liked, I wanted to keep them around for good.

It's understandable but also unfortunate how you for so many years can be so close to people but once you get some miles inbetween you, its like cell phones, facebook, email, letters, etc. don't exist anymore. We are literally not in the age anymore where you just cannot contact someone; even if they move to another country. It is quite literally as simple as downloading a free chat app on your iphone.

Twitter, gchat, gmail, skype, whatsapp, tellatalk, google talk, text messages, emails, facebook, facebook chat.  I mean, I could really keep going for hours with the amount of free shit that is out there for social media in order to be in contact with people.

The real point is: can you take the 2 seconds out of your life to ask a friend, someone who was your best friend, that you used to talk to everyday, how they are? And I am not even talking about a phone call here, because quite honestly, who really makes phone calls these days anymore? I have tried to think of one of my girl friends that I could actually call on the phone and they would answer the first time I called.... and I come up with zero. How sad.

The meaning behind my post here is that when life changes, so does your friendship. When things don't go exaclty how everyone would like and not everyone is happy, it can really changes things in friendships. For example, money can make and break friendships. Especially when living with people and money is involved. You would think that it really wouldn't matter because hey, she is your best friend or they are your friends, but in actuality, it is not quite that easy.

There are so many factors in life that will bring friendships to a lower level. I have noticed that with my friends that have kids and move away, they tend to get very selfish. The world really does only revolve around them, their family and their kids. And maybe when I have my daughter I will start to see where they are coming from, but in the mean time? I really don't understand.

Then there are the distances between people that causes friendships to decrease. Or the lack of contact. The facts: It is not hard to send a text message to your friend and ask how life is. It takes MAYBE 1 second to put in their name and type "hey how are you" and then it's on them to respond. Maybe even showing that you care about someone to see if they are alive if you haven't heard from them in awhile. And then maybe I see things completely different from some people who I thought were my friends.

In the end, having all these friends, sharing all these memories and experiences before you are married and entering into your own family and focusing on that, those friends who can't deal with being apart of that life, will disappear.

I have been searching my whole entire life for a friend that would be my older sister, my best friend, like in all the girly movies on TV. And the ones I found have come and gone and then the ones who I thought I could depend on, have changed when I recently got married and now having a baby. I guess maybe I expect too much out of people, but if my "best friend" was pregnant and you are such a wonderful friend, wouldn't you maybe offer to help them move? Or offer to hang out? Or text and say how are you feeling?

Like I said, I guess i expect too much.

I am lucky to have married someone who shares these mutual feelings with me and he is my best friend. Of course it is not the same thing as having a girl I can go shopping with or share stories about my husband when I am mad at him with, but I definitely got lucky on that end.

Now as I am 5 months pregnant and beginning to plan my wedding... this is when it really shows WHO are your REAL friends and actually want apart of this new exciting life you are creating for yourself, and then who are the people who just want to be there for the free cake and free alcohol.

In the end, the most important part of life, is your family. Now that I have made my own little family, my relentless efforts that I took to make sure my friends knew I cared about them and how much I would do for them, is changing, while I am trying to do what's best for me.

What's best for me, and what's in the best interest of my friends who are not starting a family, are totally different things. While I can respect that, it is seemingly difficult for people who used to be my drinking buddies. Totally understandable, but it's time to find people who have the same values in life as my husband and I.

That being said.... how do people in their late 20's find new friends!?

Superhero Parenting

photo weheartit

Many women talk about feeling an overwhelming pressure to be all things to everyone and complain about suffering from the burden of having to live up to incredibly high expectations. Men are also suffering in our increasingly fast-moving world where having a good job and being a fantastic parent and spouse are becoming part of an all-inclusive package.

Childcare responsibilities are now being shared by both partners, leaving men and women feeling the pressure of generation superhero, dashing from the office to the playroom and feeling excessive amounts of guilt for not spending enough time in either. So why are we all feeling such intense pressure to perform?

If you doubt the existence of the ‘superhero parent’ phenomenon, take a look at the various parenting forums and blogs online.  The internet is awash with men and women comparing time-saving tips and tricks for juggling career, family and friendships. This race of apparent super-parents are micro-managing their way to martyrdom.

But holding down a great job, active social life and happy family is no easy task, no matter how many appliances and household gadgets you buy. Work environments are becoming more demanding, with the average number of working hours increasing year on year. Factoring in commuting times, out of hours social events and buzzing blackberries, it’s not uncommon for more than half of our waking hours per week to be absorbed by work.

The number of hours in the day hasn’t undergone a revision recently, and yet men and women are now feeling the pressure to work more hours than ever before, run and maintain a household, keep up numerous friendships and still look gorgeous and well-groomed on a day to day basis.

Working parents are crumbling under the constant pressure of keeping all the plates spinning. It’s not easy to juggle the corporate world with the demands of looking after children. Thankfully, dress codes in many offices are starting to relax. A smart pair of chinos, a tailored mens jacket and a pair of stylish shoes make the perfect parent to employee outfit.

Not Being Able to Help Sucks

Lately there are a lot of my friends who have been down and depressed, each for their own reasons and they are all completely different.

I am trying really hard to be the good friend and telling them what they need to hear and being there for them and doing as best as possible to help them so they dont have to be in pain anymore.

And the worst part is, nothing I say actually matters. I'm not saying they don't appreciate it, they just don't listen. But then again, I probably wouldn't listen either. And I am sure it's frustrating to my friends as it is to me when they can't help me.

And then sometimes I get too involved and feel like I might be going overboard with what I say. So then I end up feeling like the asshole and that I was being mean.

But somethings people need to hear what they don't want to hear right? I am supposed to be the one to tell them the things that are ugly and brutal and suck really bad and just want to forget. I am supposed to remind them so they don't forget why they shouldnt go back. Right? Is that not what I am supposed to do?

Sometimes I am not sure... I know I am glad now that I had people to tell me when something was really messed up and that I had to remember what it was REALLY like... because I was so blinded by sadness that I just didn't want to be sad anymore.

Does that happen to you? Being blinded by sadness that you would do anything, ANYTHING to make it go away? Even if it was to go to something that was completely wrong for you?

I think everyone has.

It sucks to have to sit back and watch people torture themselves and not be able to help.

I am beginning to accept that some people just need to fall hard before they can get back up. I know that is what I did and I know that is exactly what people need but it is SO hard to sit there and just watch it happen. It's almost like I want to be like... WAKE THE FUCK UP!

But I can't... because the only way to walk away is to learn. And learning lessons like these, really hurt.

it's so frustrating :(

I am Happy Today Because....

Thanks Moonjava for passing the happniess over to me :)

Here are my 10 things of happiness for today!

I am happy for...

1. My friends and family. Never could I ever make it through life on a daily basis without the love and support from ALL of them. Especially lately, life has been so different and ive been spending lots of time with them all and its just awesome.

2. My apartment and my roommate and dog and cat! Probably one of the best things that happened to me this year. It has been a place for all of my friends to come together and meet each other and hang out and one of my favorite things it having everyone be friends so that has been happening and I can't wait to do it every day! Well and cuz i LOVEEEE my roomie!! She is the SHIT and LADY, dont let ANYONE ever tell you differently!

3. The potential of good things to come. Life has been so up and down and it gets harder to keep a smile on my face, so with the potential of good things to come, it's something to look forward to.

4. Sleeping in (moonjava said it best)

5. Uno! haha my friends and I are currently in a Uno obsession and we play almost every weekend lol.. who could have thought Uno would have been so much fun!

6. My blog - i love my blog and i love everyone elses blog that I read every day too. Its awesome and I look forward to it every single day!

7. Weheartit.com - for having such awesome pictures to go with every post of mine!

8. Hearing new music - its hard to find new music out there and its always nice when you find something different from the norm on the radio or in a cab. Music can change your mood, it can change your life and inspire you.

9. Jersey Shore & The Kardashians! - I am officially obsessed. Since the lack of Grey's Anatomy (which starts on January 21st BTW)

and

10. The Jets Winning! - they haven't been in the playoffs in SO LONG! This is exciting!

10 Things That Make it Really Christmas

3. Christmas trees on the top of the cars

4. Crazy traffic and ridiculousness in the retail stores

5. Holiday parties

6. Drinking your sorrows away with your family

7. Spending all of your money on OTHER people

8. Christmas cookies and holiday baking oh and holiday weight gain

9. Ridiculous amounts of holiday music

and

10. Holiday scrooges who take out their unhappiness on the people in the cars in front of them, in the stores, at the office, on the internet, walking on the street, in the subway, on the train, in the parking lot! The list goes on, you know what I mean.

What did I miss?

Happy Holidays!

Catskill Mountains

It didn't rain yesterday so I was able to go up the mountains to the Catskills!!

My grandparents used to have a house up there and there is a waterfall that I like to go to up there but I can never get anyone to go. So TB and I made the trip up there and found it and it was awesome, cold, but awesome.

It was definitely cold up there!! We went exploring through the woods and found some cars that fell off cliffs and stuff. It was pretty awesome... I was very nosey so I wanted to get a closer look at the cars so we climbed down this steep mountain/hill thing and it was pretty difficult to get up and down. Im hurtin today from all this exercise!

I saw my grandparent's old house they had up there too...

I wish it hadn't been so cold but its better than rain!!

It is so pretty in the fall....

see it kinda looks like an Indian head? Sorta? Well thats Indian Head Mountain.

I also went to the Lukemia Walk this weekend, which was nice, although I missed the walk got there too late, but I saw my friends there so that was nice moral support for them! Then I watched the Yankee Game with some friends and that was good times as well. Esp since they won and kicked ass in the 13th inning.

Went out to dinner Friday for my dad's birthday and watched the Yankee Game with the fam that night too. It was a good weekend, lots of family & friends and hiking and Yankee Games and drinking. Although I did not go to the dog shelter today so that sucked but it was pouring rain and mad cold, so it was semi-justified.

How were your weekends lovies!?

Dog Park Adventures

I love that cartoon -- it is so great that I hung it up in my cube and gave it to my boss. It's going to be a long day today... my ads haven't been done and I will probably be here really late. FUN !

What a beautiful weekend this weekend this was! It was very productive as well. Between dinner with friends, my baby cousins 1st birthday family party, another friends birthday, went back to the shelter (yay!), dog park adventures, fell in love with a puppy that was rescued from a kill shelter in Georgia and then realized 'oh yeah i cant have dogs in my apt' and got sad, and dinner with more friends! Seriously full weekend I am so tired now!

I am hoping the pictures from the dog park go up really soon, here is the website of the guy that takes pictures from the dog park we went to. http://dotfur.smugmug.com/ If you are interested in one of the puppies from the kill shelter, they are SO cute, definitely go there or contact me and I can put you in touch with the lady who rescued them because they are up for adoption!

So cuteeeeeeee I want them so bad! One day.... one day..

So at the dog park it was pretty interesting, we went with my friends dogs, Simba and Storm, and we were hanging out there while the dogs played. It was pretty funny to see all the dogs playing together, and it's pretty much like its own community which at first I thought was lame, but by the end of the time we were there we had actually met some nice people and I realized that this is what dog owners do; they hang out with other dogs! And I so want to be apart of that! We met this lady who trains dogs and she had just came back from recently rescuing dogs from a kill shelter in Georgia and she had one of the puppies in the car with her. As soon as the pictures are posted on the website I will post them up here, but the puppy that I got to hold was SO adorable and cute, I WISH WISH WISH I could have him :( But of course I cant.

One of the bigger pit bulls, Tiny, was playing too rough with some of the other dogs and was playing with Simba and he is MUCH bigger than Simba, him only being a 4 month old pit bull, so it was a little unsafe for a much bigger dog like that to be rough with him  so after an encounter with being TOO rough, we decided to go to the complete other side of the park so Simba didn't get hurt. It was a fun experience though and I really want to go again; with my own dog!!! But in the meantime.... lil Simba will have to do!

It is about to be 5 and I am no where NEAR leaving :(

ps. i just saved a bird that got attacked in my jobs parking lot by another bird. I brought it to the animal hospital and dropped it off so they can help it. I hope its okay!!!!
