2010 Resolutions - Ashley

Ashley at it's only life

I'm a huge fan of New Year's resolutions. Something about setting grandiose goals to stop doing everything bad ever and start doing everything good ever and to totally transform your entire life in only a year and become a great person seems, for some reason, not only totally realistic and not at all unfathomable to me, but really appealing as well. Anyway, here is my plan to become awesome in a year:

1.) Read the Bible in a year.
I got a One Year Bible like two years ago that I have not managed to keep up on every year. It's nice because it has a section from the Old Testament, a section from the New Testament, a section from Psalms, and a section from Proverbs, so you read a variety and it only takes like 15 minutes a day. So, let's hope I keep up on it this time. Bryan [my fiance] and a few of my friends are doing it too, so hopefully we can all support each other.

2.) Run the Bolder Boulder.
Mostly, I want to get thin for my wedding, so I decided running was a good plan. The Bolder Boulder is a 10K race in May, so that gives me a tangible goal. Plus, I heard it's a lot of fun. People dress up crazy and they have lots of bands and fun stuff along the way.

I work at Target, and I DO NOT want to work another Black Friday, or another Christmas in retail. I don't want to be married and still working at Target. I want something more fulfilling, and to feel like I'm actually doing something useful with my time. Seriously, I'm at the point where I want to apply for a new job every day until I get one.

4.) Talk to people more often.
I'm great at talking in front of large groups, but when it comes to small conversations with one or two people, unless they are a good conversationalist, talking is so awkward for me. So I want to make an effort to talk more to people I don't know, and to get together more with people I do know and talk. I want to talk to people in person more, rather than texting and Facebooking them. I also want to make an effort to call my family more often.

5.) Read The Lord of the Rings and Chronicles of Narnia series.
I don't really know if I can consider myself well-read when I haven't read the most obvious of classics.

6.) Take better care of my car.
As in, change the oil more than once this year, maybe get it washed (never done that) and do all those other car maintenance things you're supposed to.

7.) Stop replacing meals with coffee.
And eat better in general.

8.) Finish my NaNoWriMo novel, revise it at least once, and win NaNo again this November.
